Role Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Technician in Hair and Make-up for screen and film with excellent skills and knowledge in media hair and make-up techniques, processes and practices to support the delivery of our new BA Hons Hair and make-up for screen and film degree.

You will be based at the Brighton Screen and Film School’s new studios in Bevendean, which boast industry standard facilities.

As a specialist technician, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our students through:

· Providing technical support and expertise and organisational assistance to both staff and students

· Preparing materials and equipment for teaching sessions and providing effective management of studios and workshops equipment and machinery to ensure a safe working environment

· Ensuring the effective management, serviceability, and security of physical resources

· Ensuring that regulations relating to Health and Safety policies and college wide procedures are observed by students and staff

· Providing technical support for live events, productions, exhibitions

Person Specification

The technician role is diverse and busy and requires a highly proactive, enthusiastic and flexible person who can work calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines. You must be a team player able to work collaboratively with staff and students across the college and be committed to maintaining a safe and organised working environment. Excellent communication, planning, organisation, problem solving and time management abilities are essential. The technician role requires the ability to undertake manual handling, carrying and lifting.

You will bring to the role a high level of specialist knowledge and expertise in hair and make-up and have at least a Level 3 qualification in media hair and make-up, or a similar qualification and/or have experience of working on film or TV sets and pre-production.

Key skills required include knowledge of the techniques, processes and materials associated with general make-up applications, hairdressing and postiche, wig dressing and wig-making, and SFX and Prosthetics.

Flexible working hours may be required for this role at certain times of the year, to facilitate students productions and other live events, and may include evening and weekend work. This will be scheduled within the working hours of the week where possible.
